A Poem Lovely As a Tree

34
My camera came with me on my walk this morning. It's the first full day of fall and I wanted to capture some of the brilliant color that is beginning to show.

Bright reds

It appears the fall colors will be beautiful this year and I'm happy for that. I felt jipped last year when the early freeze nipped the autumn colors in the bud.

Orange Glow

As I sit here and write this post, I can hear my father saying…

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

Soft yellow

A heartfelt expression of the beauty of trees...as written by Joyce Kilmer in the above poem titled "Trees".

I'll have to tell my dad that I was paying attention.

Peace,
