Mallory Rides a Bike

34
You remember Curious George.

Curious George

He lived with his friend, the man with the yellow hat.

He was a good little monkey and always very curious.

Curious George has breakfast with the man with the yellow hat.

One morning the man with the yellow hat had a surprise for George.

It was a bicycle!

George was delighted.

The man with the yellow hat told George good-bye for the day and to be careful with his new bike. George hopped on his bike and everything started out fine.

George has fun.

George had a gay ol’ time and even helped the paper-boy deliver newspapers.

George got a bright idea and made paper boats out of the newspapers and floated them down the river.

George admires his paper boats.

George felt like an admiral as he watched his fleet of paper boats sailing down the river. But as he watched the boats he forgot to watch where he was going.

Suddenly there was a terrible jolt; the bicycle had hit a rock and George flew off the seat, head first.

George hit a rock.

Luckily George was not hurt, but the front wheel of the bicycle was all out of shape.

The story of Curious George is what I thought of when Mallory called and said she had crashed my bike.

She was riding down the hill at Woodland Park in the same spot where I had crashed with E’s bike almost a year ago.

Mallory was avoiding a tree when she hit the hand-rail and flew over the front of the bike head first.

She crashed so hard that the front of the bike frame was bent out of shape.

Mallory thought of George and his ability to ride on the rear wheel, but she didn’t know how.

George skillfully rides on his back wheel.

The bike was inoperable, so she called her dad and me to pick her up.

Her clothes were dirty, her jeans were ripped, and she had a spot of blood on her face.

Her sister was crying because I would be sad my bike was broken.

Mallory was lucky.

Aside from some bumps and bruises, she was not seriously hurt.

Stay safe boys and girls!

P.S. I took the pictures out of our book "Curious George" by H.A. Rey. The book has been around since the big kids were small...sometime in the mid 70's.

Happy Biking!
